Project Description
The Situation
We bought this unique 1950s A-frame from a widow whose husband had recently passed away. The house had a lot of character, but the upkeep had just become way too much for her to handle on her own. You could tell she was completely overwhelmed by the maintenance and the sheer amount of stuff they had accumulated over the years.
The Condition of the House

From the street, it’s a neat looking house, but once you looked closer, it was easy to see why she was stressed. The detached cinderblock garage was peeling and overgrown with weeds. Inside, there was a strange converted room with old green carpet right over the concrete. But the basement was the real dealbreaker for most people. The cinderblock foundation walls had heavy, dark water staining all along the bottom, and the exposed joists were covered in dust and cobwebs. It was dark, damp, and packed with old belongings.
Why She Was Stuck
She had already been let down by other buyers. People would look at the house, see the water issues in the basement and the amount of trash that needed hauling, and they’d back out. She was grieving, and the last thing she needed was to be told to fix a wet basement or rent a dumpster to clear out the green room before she could sell. She needed a sure thing.
How We Handled It
I told her we’d buy the house exactly as it was. She walked away with cash in hand and didn’t have to sweep a floor, touch the basement, or haul away a single item. If you look at the first photo, you can see the massive yellow dumpster we immediately pulled into the driveway. We took on the heavy lifting so she didn’t have to.
The Outcome
She got the relief she needed to move on. After she was safely moved out, my team filled that dumpster, gutted the weird additions, fixed the basement issues, and completely restored the whole house. We kept the cool 1950s A-frame charm on the outside but made it solid and fresh on the inside. We sold it on the open market, and a piece of classic Columbus architecture got a second life.
